Matt Warnock Guitar 251 Chords

Very average jazz guitar app. Many free apps are much more helpful. I am an intermediate player and didnt find this particular app to be that helpful.

Hi

This app is cool, I wish there was a feature that you could set to play random 251s a set number of times and then change... Also this app would be cooler if you could set it to be just notation too. (To practice reading chords.)

Great app from a great teacher.

Matt is a great resource an teacher of jazz guitar and this app reflects that.

Limited and pricey

I have purchased some pricey guitar apps, like Guitar Toolkit, which were worth every penny. That said I am disappointed with this app, largely because it seems like a dollar app. First the audio is pretty bad, using midi type sounds which are not pleasant. Second, for an $8 app, why not allow the user to choose different progressions as well? I knew I was getting 251s, but feel this app should go further with progression numbers you can change as well. The random feature makes for many bizarre and harsh progressions. I think the dev could have included a "suggested" or "common" voicings option. Lastly, I would been over the moon, if this app would allow for multiple progressions in different keys, to mimic a song and help a guitarist move between 251 progressions melodically. I suppose I was expecting a lot more. The app does just what it says, in the most minimal sense, but at a high price.

Great help

The only thing I wish this app had more than what it already does is the ability to customize your chord progression. With so few jazz guitar apps out there, this is a welcome addition!

Completely valuable

Replaces the need to organize all this info on paper. I use this daily.

Matt Demystifies Jazz Guitar

Although I know music, Ive only been studying jazz guitar for eight months. Matt Warnock is my teacher. Since hes a musician /and/ a teacher he has a way of demystifying the music. This app is a further step in his effort to publish all his knowledge about jazz guitar and make the music entirely accessible. Grab this high-quality app.

GREAT!!

What marvelous learning aid! Now I dont have to drive myself crazy trying to group 2-5-1 chord patterns closely together. I did find the chord dictionary very limited, and the price was a bit much, but that close chord grouping feature justifies the price.

Great App

Teaches you how to figure out for yourself just about every playable guitar chord. Way more valuable than all the chord catalog apps out there. Maybe its because an actual professor of music wrote it!

Buggy

First, the settings menu says that right hand fretboard is the default, but its not. That threw me for a loop for a few minutes. Second, a number of the chords shown in the examples are unplayable with normal hands. I just tried the app again, and the main screen is missing, I cant access the settings. The tools screen is not intuitive, you have to select the X in order for the playback settings to take effect.

251 Chords

Limited functions. There are more comprehensive apps available.

Rating from actual jazz musician.

The app itself is kind of budget, but good luck finding a drop 2 E7#9b5 voicing on any other app. . . Guitar toolkit does not know jazz chords, you can build them yourself and name them, but it doesnt know inversions or regular jazz voicings on its own. That doesnt really help me with learning. However, I dont like how it almost always subs the 1 chord with the 3 minor. . .
